I have been thinking a lot lately about my future husband. I wrote a poem to him, listened to songs about him and decided to start keeping a j0urnal to give to him on my wedding day. I watched the Friends episode yesterday where Phoebe, Monica and Rachel all rent wedding dresses and wear them all day. They toss the bouquet to each other to see who will be "next." A girl dreams about her wedding day from the time she is born, it seems like. I am reading "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" and Joshua Harris makes a good point. He says that some people make a big deal out of the wedding day, but take the marriage too lightly. If we spent as much time preparing for our future spouses, as we do the details of the special day, we would be a lot better off. It is the preparation for marriage that is 100 times more important than the wedding day. I have realized that I need to make a lot of changes within myself to prepare for the man that God has for me one day. For example, the way I treat the men in my life is a good indication as to how I will treat my husband. I am going to becme more aware of how I treat my dad, brothers and other males in my life. I am going to start praying that God will prepare my future husband for our marriage one day as well.
I read the " I Kissed Dating Goodbye " book last year when I was in a relationship and didn't really get much out of it, because I had on rose-colored glasses and I thought that things with Juan and I were perfect. Now, reading it as a single young adult, I have learned so much. When I do find the man that God has for me, I want to be ready to committ everything I have and everything I am to him. I don't want to settle for anything less than what God has for me. And, I don't want to rush marriage either. I am putting it in God's hands.
Sorry, didn't mean to get all mushy. I leave for Jekyll Island today, right in the path of the hurricane. Scary, huh? I get my Statistics test back today. I will let you know how it goes. The kitty is now with Derrick. I miss her already. He said that I can come and visit her. It's amazing how you get attached to an animal after a few days, isn't it. Yoda (the dog that jumped in Heathers car), is now on my front porch and will be on his way to Alabama to live with my grandpa this weekend. He looks like a mix between a chihuahua and a weinie dog. He is really cute. He pees everywhere though...what is up with dogs and marking their territory. Yoda and
P.G., which is my poodle, had a barking match to see who could bark the loudest and I don't know who won...it was definitely a close call.
Well, I must go study for a Spanish quiz now. I will see you when I get back from the beach.
